The wool in Friends Extra Fine Merino XL comes from South America, making it mulesing-free. The yarn is also superwash treated, letting you wash it in the washing machine at wool program at max. 86°F (30°C), which makes it perfect for everyday items.
This XL-version is thicker than the original and contains approx. 110 meters (120.3 yds) of material. It’s typically knitted on a 4mm knitting needle or a 5mm crochet hook, making it perfect for projects where you want a little extra fullness and texture. Use it by itself, with several strands held together, or combine it with a mohair strand for a fluffy look!

Pro tip: Merino fibers are very elastic and are easily stretched, especially in larger projects when they’re weighed down by water. This is normal for merino wool. We recommend that you don’t put your clothes in the washing machine on a spin cycle and instead lift the clothes gently out of your washing machine while ensuring that all parts of the garment are supported, so that no part of it hangs. Now, press the water out of your clothes by hand without twisting. If you plan on washing your project by hand, don’t let it soak. We also recommend drying our Friends Extra Fine Merino XL flat and making sure that no part of the garment hangs loose to ensure that the garment keeps its shape.
